Mission
Who We Are
The County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) advises local veterans and their dependents of their rights and entitlements under the various federal and state laws, advises them and actively assists them with completing the necessary forms and paperwork needed to support their claims.
The CVSO must attend annual Mississippi State Veterans Affairs Board service officer training and successfully complete certification training as mandated by the MS State VA Board.
Examples of work:
- Interview veterans and clients about VA benefits and issues, what they are filing and if it is a valid claim with proper evidence ect..
- Receive/make phone calls to clients regarding VA benefits/issues
- Guide clients in applying for VA benefits, Service connection, Pension, hospital, education and insurance benefits
- Select, provide and prepare the proper forms for Veterans claims and submit their documentation to the correct location for assistance
- Keep updated on VA laws, regulations and administrative procedures and policies
- Advise clients of their rights and VA benefits based on information available
- Review VA decisions and paperwork for information, documentation, appeal action and follow up action.
- Communicate with other CVSO’s, SVAB, and VA regarding VA benefits and information.
